Making materiality matter

Roundtable meetingEffective prioritisation of social, environmental and wider economic issues can help companies embed sustainability at the heart of the business. That was one of the themes to emerge from the latest roundtable event run by Two Tomorrows.

Companies represented at the confidential event were Guardian News & Media, SAP, ISS UK, Bacardi, BSkyB, BP, Channel 4, RWEnpower, Tele2 and TUI Travel.

During the roundtable, participants agreed that many companies make effective use of a materiality process to determine the issues to be included in their CR or sustainability report. But only a handful of more advanced organisations use materiality to inform company strategy.

The roundtable went on to look at the challenges companies typically face in implementing a materiality process and how these can be overcome.
