Helping du take 'important first step' in sustainability
Published on: Nov 25, 2011
Two Tomorrows client du has published the first sustainable development report by a telecoms company in the United Arab Emirates.
In what du chairman Ahmad Bin Byat calls the start of a sustainable development journey, the 2011 report covers the company’s diversified and evolving efforts towards sustainable development.
Our team worked with du to coordinate a board-level materiality workshop, structure the report, gather information, write the narrative and advise on report design. We also wrote an External Review Statement.
Two Tomorrows’ Jon Woodhead comments in the External Review Statement: “This report marks an important first step in the evolution of reporting and sustainability management at du. du has recognised the importance of ensuring that the report reflects all of the most relevant issues for the business and its stakeholders. The involvement of the board of directors in the materiality process demonstrates du’s commitment.”
A growing company, du reports an evolving approach to sustainable development building on extensive community, education and enterprise programmes since 2007. The report details the social, environmental and economic impact of its operations in the UAE.
The report shows selected information on how du implements the principles of the United Nations Global Compact. The External Review Statement confirms that the report meets the requirements for the GRI G3.1 sustainability reporting guidelines.
