Capability building at Atlantic

Atlantic logoAtlantic, one of the world’s largest producers of liquefied natural gas, enlisted Two Tomorrows to provide a tailored in-house training programme for the company’s sustainability team.

As Atlantic has grown over recent years, so has its commitment to sustainability. With a sustainability team of 15 in place in its home of Trinidad and Tobago, the company requirement was for every team member to have a thorough understanding of current best practice, and to be in the best possible position to generate fresh and innovative ideas for its approach to sustainability challenges, both internally and within its supply chain.

In particular, Atlantic aspired for the whole team to gain a clear appreciation of how industry standards – such as AA1000 – could help them achieve their objectives.

The three day in-house training course, led by Two Tomorrows' Todd Cort and Doug Bannerman, focused on an introduction to reporting, stakeholder engagement, assurance and the importance of leading standards and certification, namely GRI, ISO26000, AA1000SES and AA1000AS.

Those attending the training included members of the sustainability, marketing and communications departments.

Todd Cort, CEO of Two Tomorrows (North America), explains: “Atlantic is a company that takes its sustainability responsibilities extremely seriously, and has set itself high standards. Over the last few years it has made great strides in its reporting procedures, and is now looking to increase its understanding of best practice in its approach to sustainability challenges, and in the support of the community in which it operates.”

Liquified natural gas shipCaroline Toni Sirju-Ramnarine, head of sustainability and corporate communications at Atlantic adds: “Their training has helped our team understand the latest thinking in best practice, and to integrate the range of industry standards into our work programmes. This has been particularly useful when working with external teams and contractors.

“We were particularly pleased with the way Two Tomorrows compiled a three-day programme to meet our specific needs. Their flexibility, combined with their in-depth knowledge of our industry, resulted in a course that has truly inspired our team taking us further along the path towards our vision of sustainability in both business practice and community investment."

Todd concludes: “Increasingly, companies like Atlantic are looking at tailored, in-house training as a cost-effective and enduring way of building a company's capacity to do business in a sustainable way, and building knowledge within their wider teams.”
