Reporting advice

We helped the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) develop a sustainability report for the automotive sector.

Our work involved:

  • initial review of previous reporting by the SMMT
  • analysis of reporting requirements
  • design and facilitation of stakeholder engagement
  • data collation
  • report writing and review.

The stakeholder engagement work was crucial. Stakeholders we engaged with included SMMT members, government departments, motoring organisations, the financial sector, corporate accountability advocates, and environmental groups. Thanks to this dialogue, we were able to identify the key issues and challenges to be reported.

The resulting report was launched in November 2001. It helped the Department of Trade and Industry (as it was then called) to promote sector-wide sustainability strategies in the UK.

Our previous experience of producing sustainability reports for Vauxhall and General Motors was crucial to the SMMT choosing us as its stakeholder engagement and reporting advisers.
