Five years of independent assurance
Through our predecessor company Sd3, we have provided independent assurance of five consecutive Balfour Beatty annual corporate responsibility reports.
To do this, we developed a bespoke assurance process for the engineering and construction group. This focused on data accuracy and the fairness of its performance claims.
We reviewed all data at group level and the processes used for checking and aggregating this data. Based on this review, we selected data sets for sampling. We checked this through site visits and detailed conversations with operational management across the company.

Separately, through predecessor company csrnetwork, from 2002 we helped Balfour Beatty develop a group-wide environmental strategy. This involved advising on the development of data collection systems, and carrying out a benchmarking exercise to compare environmental management systems across operating units. The benchmarking exercise was extended over a five-year period so Balfour Beatty could set targets, measure progress and assess the level of performance of new acquisitions.
