Assurance for Korea-based steel giant

POSCO, a global steel company headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, commissioned Two Tomorrows to assure its 2009 sustainability report. POSCO is an advanced sustainability reporter and is well recognised for the content and commitment of its sustainability efforts.

Our assurance process began with a benchmark of the 2008 POSCO report against the Tomorrow’s Value Rating to identify strengths and weaknesses and to highlight case studies of best practice in peer companies. We then undertook assurance of the 2009 report using the AA1000 Assurance Standard (2008). The assurance process included senior management interviews in Seoul, a factory visit, data checking, report review and the production of a public assurance statement and internal management letter and presentation.

Given POSCO's well-developed programmes, our advice through the assurance process focused on leading-edge practices to align business value with sustainability and stakeholder engagement including mechanisms to drive greater risk management and brand protection – particularly along the supply chain.
