AA1000AS assurance for North Europe IT company

Tieto, a leading IT service company in Northern Europe providing IT and product engineering services, asked Two Tomorrows to act as independent assurance provider for its second corporate responsibility report covering 2010. This was the first time Tieto’s CR report had been independently assured.

Our assurance work was based on the AA1000 Assurance Standard 2008 (AA1000AS), and we also provided a third-party check on the application of the G3 version of the Global Reporting Initiative sustainability reporting guidelines.

We evaluated Tieto’s adherence to the principles of inclusivity, materiality and responsiveness and the reliability of specified sustainability performance data. To inform our opinion, we conducted extensive interviews with senior managers accountable for issues covered in the report, as well as staff responsible for collecting performance data, and visited Tieto's new data centre in Stockholm.

The IT industry has a particularly significant role to play in enabling others to become more sustainable. Through our assurance process, we have seen evidence that Tieto not only understands this, but is structuring the company and operating in a way that will help accelerate this trend.
