AA1000AS assurance for Korea-based ICT company
For five consecutive years, we have acted as independent assurors of the sustainability report produced by Samsung SDI, the Korean batteries and energy products manufacturer that is part of the giant Samsung conglomerate. Samsung SDI was one of Korea’s first sustainability reporters and entrants to the DJSI World index.
The most recent report we assured was Samsung SDI’s report for 2010. We used the AA1000 Assurance Standard. We were engaged to provide Type 2 assurance, which covers evaluation of adherence to the AA1000APS (2008) principles of inclusivity, materiality and responsiveness and the reliability of specified sustainability performance information.
In our 2010 report assurance, we recommended that Samsung SDI should:
- expand its current good response to product responsibility across its portfolio
- enhance discussion of its product recycling and take-back scheme to go beyond regulatory requirements covering the e-waste issue in developing countries.
